Before I get into a long and drawn out explanation of where I have been lately (besides not blogging!) I’ll get on with this post or I’ll be here all night! I’ve been planning and I’m going to start rolling out some great new things for 2014, hold tight!
Two weeks ago our survey asked “Where do you sew?” Turns out we have a very fortunate readership because over 90% of you have your own permanent sewing space. Over 50% of you even get to sew in your very own sewing room! I must say I am jealous of you folks. I am not complaining, because I get the larger portion of a room I share with my husband’s office, but I do really have to try to keep it tidy – which is completely against my nature! Any organizing junkies out there have any tips on how to do that more efficiently? I’d love to know!

This week I’m asking a new question that my mom suggested. It made me think – what if you have questions you’d like to ask too? Maybe you have a sewing related blog and you’d like to have some new visitors? I want to promote some sewing community around here and… (drum roll please! Exciting thing coming up!) I want to hear from you! In return I would love to post your name and where you live (city, province, state…) along with your question, if chosen, on a Saturday post. If you blog, I will also post a link and photo for one of your posts and to your blog in general. All you do is send an email to sherri@threadridinghood.comΒ that includes your sewing related multiple choice question. Please include the question and 3 to 5 multiple choice answers. You can also send me your name and location, and blog info including which post you’d like me to link up to! Please, if you do not blog – don’t hesitate to enter a question. I’d love to hear from you as well, and I will post a photo of one of your recent projects if you want to send it to me with your email.
What does this do for you? We all get to know some new bloggers and see some new projects. I love seeing things others have sewn – that’s one of the reasons we all love to read blogs! So… what are you waiting for?! Email away – after you answer this week’s survey of course! Hee Hee!
This week’s question is… What kind of pincushion do you use?Β Interestingly, it comes with some background! My mom happened to take apart her old tomato shaped pin cushion and found 18 sewing needles inside! If you are anything like me, those are in short supply – for some reason I am always losing mine. Maybe that’s where they are? Too bad I am so sentimental I can’t tear mine open – it’s been with me for awhile! If you do decide to see what’s in yours it would be fun if you’d comment and let us know what you found. Does yours have more than 18 needles?! And – in the interest of fairness, here is one of my mom’s projects – check out the quilt she hand-quilted in this post!

You should check out this post. http://louquilts.blogspot.ca/2012/11/one-of-lifes-great-questions-answered.html 67! Read this post this week and decided to carefully check my tomato and move my sewing needles to a magnetic holder. Explains why you can never find them when you need them!
Thanks Susan! I checked it out and I’m going to add her story to next week’s post π I can’t believe she found so much!
I can feel (very carefully! :D) if there are any needles or pins inside my pincushion. Sometimes this is how I find a needle I lost. I made the cushion myself with a scrap of my favorite fabric. Great idea to let us, your readers, send you questions for the sewing saturday servey and to promote our blogs. I’ll think about a question to ask… π
I’d love to hear your question Mirjam! I think I should make one for myself as well because there are so many cute tutorials out there – but the magnetic one I have is so easy to use π
funny you should tell the story of your mom’s pincushion, i have my own. Wayyyy back in high school (1977) i made a needlepoint pincushion ( i think i still have the grade paper, lol) anyhow my mom passed away last month and in going through her sewing things i found the pincushion still in active use. but it kept poking me, i didn’t take it apart but i did get out all the needles in it, there were at least 30, all sizes and types inside, (just polyfil so it was easy) but my we collect alot of needles in them for sure, if you ever need a needle just push your finger around on the cushion, i’m sure one will find you.

WOW! It’s so great that you still have the pincushion. It must have meant a lot to your mom since she was still using it. What a great memory π
Pretty funny the last comment. Lots easier to get them out if it is polyfil. The sawdust was stuffed in so tight I couldn’t get the pins out without making a million holes in my fingers – hence the tearing up of the pincushion. G
Guess I’m not sentimental about that one! π
Hi Mom! π Makes sense about taking it apart. Maybe one day mine will fall apart and I’ll see what I can find too!
