I was talking with my husband about the horrible state of Canadian online fabric shopping, at this point I had found only one store and the fabric selection is not exactly my taste. So I went looking further and managed to find 6 shops! (If you are from the US you can just ignore this – you are SO lucky to have so many good online fabric stores.) Anyhow, getting back on track…
I have pinned them all onto this board called Canadian Online Fabric Stores. {Update: There are now many more shops thanks to my wonderful readers!} If you are in Canada I hope the list helps you out. I will continue to update and pin more (if I can find them!) I am noting that they are “Untested” if I have not tried to buy anything from them and will update the status of the store if/once they have been tried. If you do try one, or know of one that is not on the list, let me know so I can pin it or add your comments. If we all work together we may be able to save each other some of the trouble (and the shipping and customs costs!)
Just to keep you guessing… I am posting a tutorial that uses this photo on Saturday. It is for something we made at our “Sewing Club” (name yet to be decided). And, if you want a laugh or a groan(!), check out the comments on this post. There are a lot of very creative people out there thinking up names for our sewing night. Add your own! We’ll let you know what we land on.
** Update: Since this post we’ve interviewed several Canadian Online Fabric Stores and posted more about Canadian online shopping. Click here for more posts. Follow along on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Bloglovin’ so you don’t miss any new information! And of course – don’t forget to follow the Canadian Online Fabric Store Pinterest board. Go get some fabric!
Hi, thanks for your list of stores! I’ve looked through my bookmarks, and can add these (though I’ve never ordered from them):
http://www.sew-sisters.com/, http://www.boundtoquilt.com/,
http://www.nutsforboltsetc.com/ or http://www.etsy.com/shop/nutsforboltsetc, and
http://www.stitchesfibreartsupplies.ca/
I’m hoping to find an online store in Canada that sells Kokka (melody miller etc.) fabrics.
Jennifer
Thanks! I’ll check these out and add them to my board.
Hi was just googling for Canadian stores and I found a link to this new store.
http://www.myfabricspot.com/
I haven’t tested it but it looks like one of the best that I’ve seen. Now that shipping is so expensive from the States and I keep getting hit with duty, I’m having a hard time justifying the US shopping.
They are closed now 🙁
And I’m back, I just found this store and ordered an Oliver and S pattern, they are new and promising looking,
http://fabricationsottawa.com/
I live in Ottawa and have visited this store – small, but excellent selection of fabrics, very nice and helpful staff. If you live here (post-CoViD), they offer great bag making courses! Maura
Thanks Maura! Good to know!
Hi Sherri – Thanks so much for blogging about Canadian online fabric shops! I recently opened Fabric Spot (www.myfabricspot.com) , an online only fabric shop specializing in solids, designer fabrics and patterns at amazing prices! We have the largest online selection of organic fabrics in Canada too! The reason I started this business is because I couldn’t find the modern quality fabrics I was looking for in my local fabric shops. So, please check us out and keep up the wonderful blogging!
All the best,
Karen
Thanks, Sherry for doing the legwork with that Pinterest board. But am I wrong or is there no store left in Canada but Fabricland that sells fabric for making clothing, not quilts?
I agree – there are a lot of craft/quilting stores. It seems to be the trend. I do think there are quite a few shops on the list that stock clothing fabric as well. I suppose it depends on your taste, since I have used a lot of the quilting weight fabrics for making clothing as well. I have a quilt shop near me that has quite a good stock of clothing fabric. But I suppose we will have to rely on Fabricland a bit longer!
I admit I didn’t carefully explore your page to be sure I was accurate, but certainly my impression is correct that if they want to sell fabric, they have to sell lots of quilt fabric, which is amazing in its beauty and variety… but I had in mind some nice handkerchief linen today and received a junk email from a US shop with – lo – handkerchief linen. The fabric cost for 2 yards was slightly more than the shipping ($18)! I thought
I could find a good store in Ottawa when I was there recently, but all I found was Fabricland. I suppose it’s our own fault for stopping making our own clothes when our overseas slave force started doing it so well. The pattern selection has shrunk to the brink of uselessness.
It is too bad. You definitely have to search hard to find it. It is not sitting there in plain view. Though, if you make your own clothing I am jealous because you know a whole lot about a type of sewing that I have barely scratched the surface of!
I learned to follow clothing patterns sewing for my Barbie doll, with help from my mother, then had an excellent half-year of sewing in Grade 9. But these days you can learn anything on You Tube. A surprising number of my fibre friends are learning word-working that way now. It’s all on video. I was a hairdresser for a couple of years in the mid-seventies. Thanks to You Tube videos of demos by top cutters, I’m doing fashion haircuts on my girlfriends who can’t afford the $100.
I was also underwhelmed with the quality and selection of clothing fabric within Canada…and I have also just recently opened my own online fabric, trim and pattern shop. I have products exclusively from Europe, including Farbenmix, and these products are GORGEOUS and fun!
A lot of my shop is for kids, with adorable knits and bright cottons but I do have some really unique fabrics for women as well.
If you’re frustrated with the state of patterns, check out my Ottobre magazines out of Finland. They are modern, practical and have a combination of difficulties. Each issue contains 20-40 full sized patterns. They are a really great product, especially if you sew for kids!
This is me: http://www.loiseaufabrics.com
if you check out our facebook, we have a coupon for free shipping anywhere in Canada until June! It’s our turn Canada.
Thanks for the opportunity to promote a small Canadian business. It sounds like there are a few of us taking this issue by the horns and opening our own shops!
I applaud the efforts and wish everyone well.
Michelle
I have purchased material from this website and have been very happy with their service and material. It has both high quality material and great selection. The service was wonderful too. Definitely would shop l’oiseau fabrics again.
Hey, I just remembered your profile photo! You’re YOUNG. My niece has started sewing. Maybe there’s going to be a resurgence of making clothes in your generation. I stopped around 1997 and have just started again.
I think I read that the DIY/Handmade trend had a resurgence in the last 5 years. Seems it is trendy again, maybe we will see a lot more good clothing fabric surfacing in the near future! (Don’t worry, I’m older that you think, thankfully my mom gave me some good genes!)
Everyone under forty looks twenty to me. Even my niece is pushing thirty. Geez!
I too am sewing clothing and have found many others taking up the hobby. I’m in my 20s I’d that helps 🙂
That’s amazing Larissa! Sewing is really fun and creative 🙂
Hi Sherri,
This is a great list. I just launched an online fabric shop in Canada called Fridays Off Fabric Shop. The url is http://www.fridaysoff.ca
I specialize in 100% cotton designer quilting fabrics. I’m new and still building my inventory, but have some great collections at the moment including Valori Wells, Tula Pink, Doodlebug Design Inc. Sherri McCulley Studio, Anna Maria Horner and Carly Griffith. I’m expecting the latest from Lotta Jansdotter in the next few weeks.
In addition to fabric I also sell patterns, sewing kits and fat quarter bundles.
I would love it if you would check out my shop and pin me to your board.
Thanks for sharing the fabric love and looking forward to hearing from you. I would also be happy to create a promo code for your readers for 10% off their order.
Best,
Alanna

I haven’t bought anything here yet, but it is another one to add to the list!
I wish someone could tell me where to order apparel fabric? I don’t quilt, but I love to sew dresses, hoodies, etc and can never find that sort of fabric online in Canada.
Hi Grace, I’ve put it on my list to organize the Pinterest board by type – maybe we’ll find some apparel fabric on there yet!
I sew my own clothing & agree fabric sellers in Canada are very few, most of them are selling the same designer brands from US & limited to quilt fabrics. Gladly, I tried a new local (Canadian) seller on etsy recently & was happy to have found what i was looking for. The fabric quality was surely value for money, standard Canada Post delivery options are seen offered, I had opted for Letter mail (without tracking) which arrived on time. Seller was professional & prompt to respond to my queries.
https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/SaifeeWeaves
Hope this helps 🙂
Thank you so much Sherri for this post! I just ordered some fabric from http://www.myfabricspot.com. I’m so impressed with their fabric pattern choices. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction 🙂
Sandra
I’m so glad! I love the Fabric Spot selection also – Karen has so many solids in stock!
I’m looking for fancy fabrics, taffetas & such. I can’t find much online and my nearest fabricland is 3 hours away.
I will have to see what I can find for you. I’m in the process of re-organizing the list. Hopefully I will find something while I’m doing that! You can’t be expected to drive that far! 🙂
Hello,
I’m Krista and I own http://www.miijathreads.com . I’m fairly new as I just opened a few months ago. I thought I would introduce myself to everyone. I carry a nice selection of bright modern quilting and sewing cottons. My love at the moment is Art Gallery Fabrics.
Hi Krista, Thanks for letting us know! I am just getting into the Art Gallery Fabrics and might be a tad addicted! I have pinned your store to my “Canadian Online Fabric Stores” board here: http://pinterest.com/sherrisylvester/canadian-online-fabric-stores/
I appreciate that someone has compiled a list!! I am planning to make a ragtime quilt or else a no-sew fleece blanket for my boyfriend for christmas. I am looking for some Saskatchewn Roughriders fabric and am having an incredibly hard time finding any. Do you have any specific sights I might try??
I’ve gotten some NFL fabric from fabric.com before, but I’m not sure about CFL fabric. You could try printing your own at Spoonflower – but it might not work because their logo likely is protected by copyright. Sorry, that’s not likely terribly helpful. I suppose it would be counter-productive, but you could buy a ready-made Roughriders product (t-shirts or something similar) and then cut it/them up to make the quilt?
Thank you for your reply. At least I think you replied to me. Please forgive me but I’m old and really don’t know what I am doing here. I was looking for CFL and Blue Jay fabric. I will try fabric. com. Don’t know what it means when you tell someone you pinned something, but be careful you don’t stick your finger. Don’t want to get any blood stains one your fabric. Thanks, Arlene
There is also fishskinfabric.com
Thanks so much Milena! I have added them to the board. 🙂

Hi Lindsay, Thanks for letting me know about your shop! I have added it to the Pinterest list and mentioned the 10% off code. Thanks so much! I will spread the word via social media today.
There is a great new shop called Ottawa Valley Fabric. It is an online store in Ottawa, Ont. There are over 1700 fabrics at present, with another 1200 products to be added right away. You can order cuts from .2 metres and up, fat quarters of any fabric, and can get samples for $1.00 each. There are also lots of patterns and kits to chose from, with lots more on the way and lovely quilt backs. Orders are shipped next day, and shipping isn’t too expensive. There are lots of new fabrics and a few older ones, if you are looking for something in particular.
Thanks so much for letting me know Pat! I’ll add it to the Pinterest list 🙂
http://www.tonicliving.com
Great Canadian company with top quality fabrics! They do have a retail store in Toronto, as well as ship everywhere! I’ve ordered several times and have always received amazing fabrics that I am constantly complimented on! If is not cheap ( prices range from. $10-30 a yard) but it’s always been worth the investment to me!
http://www.fabrications.com
Great selection! They have a nice variety of fabric and patterns, and there retail store in Ottawa offers equipment rental (in house) and classes!
Thanks Marion! I’ll make sure these are on the Pinterest board. 🙂
Thank you for doing the leg work! I will file this away for future shopping.
I’m so glad you can use it!
Hello!
I have recently opened up an online fabric boutique I would love to share with you. I am located in the Kitchener/Waterloo area and my obsession with fabric is mostly concentrated on mod/geek/autumn type designs. Please check out what I have so far – I will be getting more fabric in very soon!
https://www.fortheloveoffabric.ca
Thanks,
Catherine
Another apparel sewer looking for a little more distinction between shops.
I could make some skirts and dresses with all these cutesy cotton prints but not much else =/ Really looking for something with some structure I could make my planned steampunk costume jacket out of, as well as a proper corset, and my local fabric store is pretty sad in its selection. I’d hate to have to turn to ebay again.
I see a lot of interesting articles on your blog. You have to spend a lot of time writing,
i know how to save you a lot of time, there is a tool
that creates unique, SEO friendly posts in couple of seconds, just search in google – k2 unlimited content
Looking for Black & White checkered fabric, like finish flag, to use as binding on a quilt, anyone seen any any where in Canada, don’t want to pay customs!!
Good to know Ruth. I’ll keep an eye out!
Hey I was wondering if there was anywhere that sells a good selection of Shannon Minky fabric. I make stuffed animals and it is the best I have found. I have found a couple places that have some but the selection is lacking and it is still cheaper for me to buy in the US and have it shipped here.
I haven’t seen a lot of minky Amanda – though I think Stay Home Fabrics has some – you could try this: http://stay-home-fabrics.myshopify.com/
That got weird…..
I am also very sad about the lack of fabric available to me. I can’t believe that there are so few places that sell fabric, and then that the few places I find don’t sell anything other than quilting fabric.
I try to find gorgeous and beautiful fabric to line my purses with, but unfortunately I no longer have a supplier of beautiful fabric. There used to be so many gorgeous fabrics like silk, or satin or other options.
Anyone know of fabric stores that sell the higher end fabrics?
Hi! I am not sure about high end – you could try http://lowpricefabric.com/
Sherri,
That’s a great link! Thank you!
I’m so glad you like it!
Unfortunately it’s an US store. I don’t really want to buy online, I like to feel and see the fabric as I go. So not really much help. I’m heading to Calgary soon. Found 3 REAL stores there with fabulous fabric. So exciting!
I’m so glad you found something close by! I hope your trip goes well 🙂
I was just wondering if anyone can recommend a good website to buy jersey knit fabric or any kind of stretchy fabrics. Most of the stores I’ve looked at mostly only carry 100% cotton for quilting, and I’m not interested in quilting.
Thanks in advance!
Hi Krystal – There are a few that sell knits in Canada. You can try: http://www.loiseaufabrics.com/, http://www.simplififabric.com/, http://www.myfabricspot.com/. There may be more, but those I know off the top of my head. Hope that helps!
try: http://www.fabricville.com,
Has huge selection of fabrics, located in canada
Hello, I’m looking for fleece.. Anyone know where I can find it?
Hi Nic, I just took a quick search of a few Canadian shops that came to mind – here are a couple of links for you: http://www.canadiannationalfabric.com/category_s/1933.htm, http://www.fabricandwoodideas.com/categories.asp (search fleece).

Thanks for dropping by from France, Stephanie!

Thank you for the link Ashley! I don’t have fabrics to donate right now but I will keep it in mind! Thanks for bringing it to my attention 🙂
I am in search of more selection of jersey material other than fabricland. The only source I’ve found is an american site called spoonflower and 1 yard is $26.50 +shipping. Any help to source a Canadian source?
Hi Faith, there are quite a few on the Pinterest board that sell Jersey. Try L’Oiseau, Simplifi Fabrics, Duncan & Kate, Fabric Spot. These are off the top of my head. There may be more. Hope that helps!
I am looking for Ponte fabric from Cananda does anyone know of some?
Thank you
Hi Pauline. Thanks for asking! You can try Fabricville – based in Quebec with stock similar to Fabricland. They have some Ponti Di Roma here: http://fabricville.com/en/catalogsearch/result/?q=ponti Hope that helps!
If you wish to sew organic, let me present you our website http://www.only-organic-fabric-shop.com
We sell only GOTS certified fabrics and ship worldwide
Thanks for the link Stephanie. I see that you are based in France, great for international readers!
Hi Sherri,
Thanks for compiling the list of Canadian online fabric stores.
I am Monica, the owner of a new online fabric store Earth Indigo (https://earthindigo.com/ and https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/EarthIndigoFabric). I am based in Markham Ontario. The store was open in January this year and I hope it’s ok to introduce the shop to the world here.
I carry handwoven / handprinted fabrics that are crafted by artisans from different parts of the world. Some fabrics are fair trade. I also carry eco fabric – organic woven, bamboo jersey etc. My store is still small, but I’m hoping to introduce more varieties later this year. Please drop by any time.
Thanks
Monica
Thanks so much for letting me know Monica! Sorry I have been long in answering your email. Will get back to you in the next couple of days for sure! Much appreciated! 🙂
There are more than a few steps, but it was easier than I expected:
I am desperately searching for a Canadian source for a good selection of quality Minky fabric. Does anyone know of anywhere?
Hi Barb. Just off the top of my head you can try: Sew Sisters Quilt Shop, Funky Monkey Fabrics and Stay Home Fabrics. There might be more on the pinterest board here: https://www.pinterest.com/sherrisylvester/canadian-online-fabric-stores/ Hope that helps!
Hi Sherri, I just recently started my own online fabric store, carrying modern designs. Check us out at http://www.threadcountfabrics.ca we offer flat rate shipping and free shipping for orders over $99. We current carry cottons and knits! Our inventory is always expanding!
Thanks so much for commenting Hannah! Great selection 🙂 I’ve added you to the Pinterest board!
I also shop a lot online for quilting and clothing fabrics. I too buy from the US, and am happy to find Canadian stores, BUT I do not bother when I see the shops advertising their fabrics, which seem reasonable to find beside the fabric, sold by half metres, which means the pricing is not so reasonable after all…please say a metre, not fool us in the beginning.
Hi Cynthia! I have seen that too – it’s a good reminder to check how each shop sells it’s fabric before purchasing. Thanks!
Distinctive Sewing Supplies (based in Oakville and always at Creativ Festivals) carries high quality clothing fabrics and interesting patterns through their online store. Delivery is fast and there are always discounts. I’ve been buying from them for years and appreciate that they have many samples available to try on at the show. Catherine Goetz and her staff are wonderful to work with – very knowledgeable about what designs work with which fabrics. http://www.distinctivesewing.com. There’s a weekly newsletter, too.
They are really good! Thanks for mentioning them 🙂 I talked to Catherine at the Spring Creativ Festival and was really excited to see her stock.
Hi Sherri,
I just wanted to let you know that I’ve opened my own online fabric store. It can be found at truenorthfabrics.com and after working on it for ages, I am so excited to finally share it with people. I’m always looking for new fabrics (in fact I have a new shipment due soon) so I’d love to know what people would like to see there.
Thank you so much!
Amanda
Wonderful Amanda! Many happy sales 🙂 I’ve pinned it to the Canadian Fabric Shop board here: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/4292562124925662/
Hello Sherri! I would love it if you could add Country Rose Quilting http://www.countryrosequilting.ca to your list of online Canadian Fabric Shops! I am the shop owner, I love to quilt, also love online shopping. When I find inspiration I like to hit the BUY button and not get in my car and head out looking around so have been an online shopper for everything for years. I even shop for my groceries online! I am always open to suggestions as I too want to improve the Canadian online fabric options. I also love to provide great service, love to help people and love pretty packaging!
Thanks so much for letting me know Nicole! I have added your shop here: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/4292562125068601/
I’ve just opened a new online quilt fabric shop, and will be carrying at least windham,, Andover, makower, maywood, and cantik batiks. Please consider posting me on your pins, so that I might be found out here in Alberta! Thank-you. I also provide long arm quilting…
Wonderful Dorothy! Thanks for letting us know. I’ll post it on the Pinterest board 🙂
Hi Sherri! This is an awesome website! I live in Niagara Falls, Ontario and have recently opened a small fabric shop! I’m working on getting my website up and running but for now anyone can buy through my Facebook page and I’ve just been selling through there! I’ve got lots of beautiful fabrics and have many more on the way! I have to update the page, but I’m here!! My shops name is Sew Fresh Fabrics Niagara on Facebook and Instagram 🙂 I hope to chat with you ladies soon!!
Wonderful Lindsay! That’s great! Thank you for letting us know about your shop. Let me know once you get your website up and running and I’ll add you to the Pinterest list. In the meantime – good luck with your sales 🙂
Hi Sherri,
I’m writing to let you know that I have recently opened an online fabric store (based out of Edmonton) specializing in modern quilting fabric. The website is http://www.birdieanddotfabrics.ca

I would like to add Woodland Quilting – a very nice fabric (both traditional and modern) / notion / pattern / kits / books / mystery quilts / block of the month store in Spruce Grove Alberta
It’s such a very pleasant store to visit – both to view and run your fingers over fabrics
Thank you
Thank you Sherall! It looks like a cute shop! If they open an online shop I’d love to add them to our list. Hooray for brick and mortar shops! 🙂
My absolute favourite Canadian fabric store is
Runawayquilting.com
The absolute best customer service and they add gifts to your order. Perfect. What a load of notions this place has too. A quilters dream!
Hi and thanks for the great list you have put together!
I’ve recently made a couple of purchases from Becks Fabrics in Bolton, ON and loved the quality and selection of the fabric.
Thank you Robin! I’ve added it to the list!
I know this is an old post but I was looking though your pins and noticed I didn’t see Peak Fabrics. They are located outside Calgary but are online only now I think. They are an amazing online source for fabric for outdoor gear – softshell, 2 and 3 layer waterproofs, powerfleece, neoprene, you name it. Also have great fabric for yoga clothes (she gets what is left over from a famous yoga manufacturer), swimwear, some patterns and the accessories to sew it up. Anyone trying to make their own gear knows how frustrating it is to find good quality fabric without importing it and paying an arm and a leg.
