Happy Monday to You! Today marks the beginning of the 11th Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day and I’m excited to be participating this year. I took some time over the weekend to make up a cute mini tote bag! It’s handmade by me and I would love to keep it… but I love giveaways and appreciate my readers even more (Thank You!) so I’m giving it away! And… even if you don’t win, you can make one too because I will be posting the tutorial for it later on today for Made By Me Monday. *Update: The Mini Tote tutorial is here.
About the prize: (Just picture a lovely lady’s voice from the Shopping Channel…) This lovely mini tote is made using camel-toned fabric with a chocolate velour floral print. It has a stunning sequined stripe on the front and gold corded dupioni silk handles. The lining is made from Rashida Coleman-Hale’s Koi fabric line – Pennants Waving in the Ivory colour-way. It is 9″ wide, 10.5″ tall and 4″ deep. The handle drop (from top of handle to the bag) is 8″. This bag is perfect for that quick trip to the grocery store or fancy enough to dress up a visit to the mall with a friend. Holding all of your necessities and more, you’ll wonder how you ever got along without it!
Okay, I am half kidding, but it got the information across and hopefully made you smile. (yes?!)
Here are the details: This giveaway is open internationally (hooray!), and will close at 5pm PST (8pm EST) on Friday, December 13th. The winner will be chosen randomly and I will be posting their name by Dec 15th and shipping the tote bag to the lucky recipient by December 20th.

My favourite holiday memory, as a child, was opening my new Nancy Drew book on Christmas morning and reading it almost non-stop throughout my school vacation. Of course it did not take all my vacation from school to finish the book, but I did spend a lot of time just holding it and marvelling over the nearly unblemished cover. There was nothing like a brand new Nancy Drew book on Christmas morning.
My daughters first Christmas is my favorite memory. She was almost one and seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child always brings the excitement back. Thanks for the great giveaway!
Thanks for a gorgeous giveaway. My favourite Christmas memory is having my first baby born at Christmas, I went through the night and had her on Boxing Day.
My favourite memory from a holiday on New Year’s in Finland was waiting in line to meet Santa and it was snowing softly!I remember it like a dream!AriadnefromGreece!
We always went to be with extended family in PA for Christmas, but one year we stopped in Williamsburg, VA on the way. It’s a really neat place at Christmas!
One of my favorite things about Christmas morning is sitting around as a family and throwing crumpled up wrapping paper at one another. Good times! Thanks for this great giveaway!
My favorite memory is Santa coming me my door and giving me My first sewing machine. I loved that machine.
My favorite Christmas memory so far was last year when both my sons came home for Christmas. We did all our regular traditional stuff. Making cookies, watching Christmas movies. They stayed a entire week and it was wonderful.
One of my favorite Christmas memories is of selling Christmas trees with my Daddy. He had a big juke box and it played Alvin and the Chipmonks. I always have a smile on my face when I hear the Chipmonks sing, smell the wonderful smell of spruce Christmas trees and smell cigar smoke. Makes me think of Daddy.
I can spell chipmunk but got caught up with my memory.
So many memories. One of my favorites was my first Christmas away from home. I went to college across country and thought I wouldn’t be able to go home for Christmas. I was sad, but not totally depressed about it because I had a lot of extended family where I was so I knew I wouldn’t be alone. My uncle surprised me by using his frequent flyer miles to send my home for Christmas. The funny thing was, up to that point I wasn’t even sure he liked me. He’s married to my mom’s sister and and I was always afraid of him growing up–don’t know why now 🙂
My favorite holiday memory is basking in the glow of a lit Christmas tree. 🙂

That is a lovely tote. My favorite holiday memory is of making sugar cookies with my grandmother. I remember sitting at the counter with my cousins and we would cut them out while she baked them.
i remember playing with a race car set that went up the wall with my dad at christmas when I was about 9
holiday memeory as in christmas holidays or any holiday? … well one of my favourites were the camping trips along the Atlantic cost in France when I was little …
My favorite holiday memory is probably baking and decorating Christmas cookies. I plan to do it with my kids every year too!
Yes, you made me smile and this bag is gorgeous- thanks for the giveaway!
My favorite holiday memory is of getting together with all my cousins at grandma’s house- staying up way past our regular bed time and feasting on take out at midnight.
We never did a lot of presents growing up because my parents didn’t want it to be about what we could get (something I’m planning on continuing with my own boys!). Instead, we usually took a trip to a Bavarian inspired town about 1.5 hours away. We always had a fancy dinner and got too wander around all the little shops.

My favourite memory of Christmas is my grandmother, she was Christmas for me , she went out all with the dinner, decorations , made her home welcome too all. Was never the same when she past away. Getting those big shoe boxes from the Salvation Army, with hats/mitts , candy and a toy, we were so happy with that, I will never forget , I still miss those days!
Among many lovely holiday memories, I remember going night sledding on Christmas Eve when there was enough snow — always so fun (and ensured that we would sleep well that night!).
One of my favorite holiday memories from when I was a kid was being able to open one gift on Christmas Eve.
My favorite memory is of my children when they were little and watched their faces as they opened up their presents.
We lie under the christmas tree in this house to look through the branches and see the sparkling lights, a bit odd I know. But when my son was 2.5 at christmas a few years ago he did it for the first time, we lay there for ages looking at the sparkles, magical!
My favorite holiday memory was every Christmas Eve my grandparents would stay the night and wake us up early to open presents. It was really nice having them there every year growing up
I hope this Christmas will bring me one of my favorite memories as it will be the first time our daughter sings songs in a little opportunity choir with the other children in church :). Thanks for the great give-away.

My favorite memory is the Christmas I got a rocking chair that played music as you rocked, AND a doll carriage, AND a tricycle. I must have been about 4. I remember going from one to the other most of the morning. Mom and dad must have really sacrificed to give me so many “important” gifts.
My favorite holiday memory is when my great-grandmother came to visit and my grandma, my great-grandmothers, my aunt, my sister, my mother, and I stayed up REALLY late just chatting and laughing. We were all having so much fun together!

My favorite holiday memory is the year my husband gave me my embroidery machine. Thank you or the chance to enter your giveaway. Love your bag. It looks to be a great size.
My favorite holiday memory my oldest one year wanted a hot dog for christmas. She even told Santa that’s what she wanted. Well she got it. I wrapped it that morning and the joy on her face from a little hot dog was the perfect memory. We still talk about it.
One of my most favorite memories of Christmas was that my Father’s birthday was on Christmas Eve. It was so much fun to shower him with Birthday presents when lots of Christmas presents lay under the tree for opening AFTER my Father’s birthday.

I love Christmas Eve’s dinner with my mum’s family. She’s got 7 brothers and sisters and I’ve got 21 cousins! We always have a great time!
I have so many, we have many goings on around then. I always liked the Christmas we had a fat shirt tree and my sister and I both got china dolls. It was a luxury we never expected.
Fat “short” tree, ha! Although I wouldn’t mind seein a shirt tree if anyone decides to make one.
Ha! So funny 🙂 I was wondering…. until I read the second comment!
Your tote is a wonderful combination of understated neutrals and sparkling sequins! And I adore your blog name. 🙂 My favorite holiday memory: Every year we put away our decorations in totes but sometimes they multiple and the extras are stored in a garbage bag. This year, we took down the totes and I opened the garbage bag to find… garbage. O_o Its a memory for sure! Thank you for the giveaway.
Oh NO! Yes – I’m sure it will not be forgotten!
My favorite Christmas memories always involve hanging out with my sisters and snacking on my mom’s homemade English toffee.

My favorite memories are being home with my family for Christmas morning then making the rounds to visit friends in the afternoon. It’s been too long since I’ve made it home. Thanks for the giveaway.
My favorite holiday memory is standing on a chair in the kitchen and helping make little cookies with the leftover pie dough. Cinnamon and sugar, then roll up the dough and slice it so the cookies were little spirals. They always came out perfectly.
Lovely bag! Last year might have been my best Christmas ever and I remember laying under the tree with my little one, looking at the ornaments. This year she’s more interactive and Christmas will be even better.
Absolutely lovely prize! My favorite memory is that Santa hid the presents at our house, so Christmas morning was like a treasure hunt. One year, we found a gift under the couch in March! I’ve continued the tradition with my kids. Many thanks!
Following you on Facebook now – looking forward to much inspiration! Thanks for the lovely giveaway!
My favourite memory is having all of my family in our home for Christmas dinner, with the windows fogged up from all the warmth inside, and the cold and snow outside.

Amazing. My favourite is only a couple of years old. I live not far from the National Arboretum here in the UK, and the year before last we went to visit their pre-Christmas illuminations. They flood-lit the trees after dark with different coloured lights and tucked little stalls in along the forest paths selling mulled wine and hot chocolate. That year, we exceptionally had heavy snow before Christmas, and it looked as though we’d stumbled into Narnia! It was just magical.
Mine would be discovering my dad playing Santa and thinking Wow!!

Gorgeous tote! I enjoy spending Christmas Eve with my kids playing board games. Too soon they’ll be old enough that they will complain about this tradition! Thank you.
we used to have this tradition of driving to the city to spend Christmas Eve with first one grandmother for Dinner, and then the other grandmother for dessert. We would do presents at both. I just remember it being a really nice time to spend with them. Thanks for the giveaway, the bag is lovely!
Really, I can’t think of any one specific favorite holiday memory, but I just love the time of year and being able to spend time with my family. It seems like we always got big “family” gifts at Christmas… a microwave (back when those were new …. and huge in size!), a VCR, a kitchen table….
What a lovely bag. My favorite holiday memory is when my then two year old spotted Santa at the mall. She was so afraid of him that she would only wave from a safe distance.
My best Christmas memory is when I was 5, I think, and received my 1st bike! Later when my Grandma came over to our gifts, she got on and rode it! I loved it!
I follow on Facebook. I love the bag!!
My other fav memory is my daughter, then 3, realizing Santa looked alot like Papaw! Lol
One of my favourite Christmas morning memories is how we always had Timmy’s donuts as our breakfast as we opened our stockings in our pjs. Sweet Canadian tradition!!!
My favourite Christmas memory occurred on Christmas eve 1999.
We went home for Christmas that year. Across three provinces so our 11 month old daughter (first grandchild/niece so it was really important) could have her first Christmas with our family. She was already walking and talking so it was really fun.
I realized Christmas eve morning something was off, did a quick calculation and off to the drug store we went. As you can probably guess, I found I was pregnant. My parents were in grandbaby heaven.
Hi Sheri
There are so many wonderful story’s it will be hard to choose. I just like to share my favorite memory is that my Dad always put up the Christmas tree in the evening just a day before Christmas eve. We would wake up to this beauty in awe and just experience that joy. My favorite Christmas memory – moving into our new home in Louisiana and getting to set up the tree right away. My kids were little. Merry Christmas. crystalbluern at onlineok dot com
One of my favorites is after we moved to Germany. We didn’t get housing like we thought we would. We were there for 6 weeks when we finally got a house. December 22 they were showing up with boxes and boxes of out stuff. So what is a mom of 2 young kids to do about a Christmas try. She uses military wife ingenuity. She runs to the PX and buys markers, tape, stickers and candy canes. I broke open one of the biggest boxes, taped it to the wall and drew the best Christmas tree I could with a green marker. The kids decorated it with stickers and candy canes taped to it. Not the best tree ever but Santa found his way to leave presents under it. It is a story the kids talk about every year. They are now 22 and 24.
I will always have fond memories of the Christmas my dad’s family had their first family reunion and all of us cousins got to meet each other again (we all live in very different states from each other) and hang out for a few weeks. So much fun!
I would love to win!

I remember my Dad sawing a chunk of the Christmas tree because it was too tall, and deciding to take a bit off the top as the trunk was thinner there so we ended up with this weird flat-topped tree

My favorite memory was the year that my dad was over for our Christmas dinner. He passed away a few years ago.
I love snuggling on Christmas Eve in pj’s and watching a Christmas movie. The calm before the craziness of Christmas.

Mine is the first year we went up to the moutains to cut our own christmas tree. We had hot chocolate with marshmellows (of course), a big fire and the kids did some sledding. It was freezing but we stayed until dark because we were having so much fun.
It’s hard to pick just one! I have so many favorite memories as a kid. My Mom worked hard to make the holidays really special, and we had no other family nearby. Christmas Eve. we exchanged gifts and played games, and ate really delicious food. It was very relaxed, which was a rarity at times since there were 9 of us kids. I try to make the holiday just as special for my young girls now!

My fave christmas memory is sitting in the dark by our christmas tree looking out the window at all the lights while my family was playing a game and laughing in the background.
Skiing in Switzerland and my brother loosing his GI-Joe figure in the deep snow.
My favorite Christmas memory is opening up my very own pair of sparkling ruby red slippers just like Dorothy’s when I was a kid. I wanted nothing else and was so thrilled to get them. I don’t even remember anything else I got that year and my mom had to pry those shoes off my feet. 🙂

During my childhood, the whole extended family would gather at my parents’ house for Christmas. My mom did all the cooking. Sometimes the main dish was turkey, sometimes duck, and once in awhile lutefisk — yum! My grandmother would make lefse — double yum! After dinner I was the designated gift distributor. I would pass them out one at a time so everyone could see what everyone else received. It took awhile, but oh, what fun!
The smell of Xmas Pudding while it was beeing made by my landlady when I lived in England.
I remember playing in an old bathtub outdoors once summer at my grandparents’ home. We couldn’t go to the beach because there had been a shark sighting so we had to play with the hose while we could see the beach from my nan’s backyard.
My favorite holiday memory is the first year that I hosted the holiday cookie baking for the women in my family. We had such a great time and so many laughs.

My favorite holiday memory is having family around. cousins, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters! Now everyone is too far away!
My favorite memory is my mother’s Christmas coffee cake. We looked forward to that every year!
My favorite holiday memory…. Ugh…. there’s so many. I guess I love when we pick out the tree. Going every year and choosing just the right one; then cutting it down. Oh and I forgot to mention, arguing about whose turn it is to choose that year and getting covered in snow as we all take turns with the saw:)
Hmmm favorite memory? One of them was when we woke up way early on Christmas morning and my mom sent us back to bed. She said if you can’t get yourself out of bed this early for school you’re not doing it today! Hahaha! Wasn’t fun then but I think it’s awesome now 😀
my first child arriving 3 days after Christmas and about 3 weeks early (but healthy).
My favorite holiday memory is going snowboarding with my brother. I was so sick and so so bad at it, but he took me as a present and we still talk about it.
I have fond memories of when I was a kid and the entire family would get together for Christmas eve, for food and fun and we used to open up one present. It used to last until midnight! My family lives all over the place now so we haven’t done it in a while. I miss it 🙂
I remember the look on my then boyfirend, now husband’s face our first Christmas when he opened a present and found a gift certificate to the music store that made it so he could go buy his new set of drums.
I remember thinking we heard Santa on the roof. We were afraid to get out of bed to check.
When we were young, 50+ yrs ago, our present from our grandparents was a bag of hard Christmas candy, the ribbon candy, peanuts in the shell, an orange and best of all a brand new 50 cent piece. (back then a full size candy bar was a nickel) Kids today would be appalled, but we were grateful.
My favorite memory is the year my dad made me a wooden kitchen set for Christmas. He made it super realistic. It even had countertops on it and a dining table and chairs!
We were very poor and he worked for months on it. It was the best Christmas ever!

Christmas with my Gran was always the best. She would bake and cook, we would play games and go hunt in the forest for a tree. So many fond memories.
The year was 1969, my father was in Vietnam and I was 12 years old. My mother and I spent Christmas eve in the attic trying to put two bikes together for my younger sisters. It was cold and I can’t tell you how many nut/bolts and screws we had left over but nothing fell apart the next day. My Mom and I still talk about that night.

Christmas was on a Monday, and my Dad, a pastor, was obviously busy on Sunday so we drove to Grandma’s house on Christmas day. Only the car kept dying (found out later it was an alternator problem) on the 8 hour trip, whenever we stopped or slowed down. We got countless jump starts from friendly passers-by and finally made it to Grandma’s street, where we kids and Mom got out and pushed the final 200 yards.
The Christmas I was naughty and peek under the wrapping and was disappointed to know that it was Madge not a Barbie.
My sisters and I trying so hard to stay awake to see Father Christmas!!
We never did manage it!
When I was a kid I went downtown for the holidays. Downtown was transformed into a winter wonderland. There is nothing even close to that now. Nothing!

My favorite memory is the traditional oplatki shared before the Christmas eve dinner. (Oplatki is an eastern european tradition–my family is originally from what is now Slovakia–and you can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_wafer . Now the dinner itself, well, that was a less favorite tradition….it was traditionally boiled potatoes and various types of cold fish…whitefish, salmon, pickled herring, etc. I hated fish (still do), so I basically stuck to boiled potatoes. Still, we opened presents after dinner on Christmas eve, so 2 great memories and one fishy one!
Even though I hate traveling now, I loved traveling to my grandparents house. I have so many cousins and we just had the biggest time.
When I was around 15 my family was talking about teddy bears. I complained because I didn’t have one. On Christmas morning there was a teddy bear under the tree for me..lol.
I love looking at the holiday lights!

I am hoping this Christmas to create a new favourite memory – I am making 3 of your Thread Riding Hood Super hero capes for my daughter, niece and nephew. I can not wait to see the look on their faces and to watch them play super hero’s on Christmas day with their new capes. Thank you so much for sharing the tutorial and pattern. It is fantastically written and I referred a couple of the girls at sewing last night to your site when they commented on the Capes in progress. I will send you some pictures after Christmas (for you to see, I would rather they not go on your blog).
Merry Christmas and thanks for sharing what I am sure will be another great tutorial and your beautiful bag. The Infomercial voice did make me laugh 🙂
Thank you so much Jodi! What an amazing comment. I really appreciate you taking the time to say so many nice things, you’ve made my day! I’m so glad you love the capes. They are such a simple project – but the results with the kids are amazing. I would love to see your photos and will definitely not post them 🙂 Thanks so much! Glad I made you smile as well. Have a great evening.

My favorite holiday memory is when my mom and I immediately started taking pictures of my sister after the Christmas tree had fallen on top of her, instead of helping her get out from under it!
One Christmas when I was little (around 4 or 5), we didn’t have very much money and so my Dad had sat us down in our room to explain about no Santa and not getting very much for presents (gave us chocolate pudding to soften the blow too, such a sweetie). Mom was in the living room working on a few little things. Anyway, dad had just finished convincing us that there was no Santa when there was a knock at the door and a loud, jolly “ho, ho, ho!” Then the door closed and we all rushed out…just missing “Santa”. A family friend had known about the situation and didn’t want four little kids to go without Christmas and brought over presents. We were sure it had been Santa and that our dad was “tricking” us!
Sneaking in to the family room early one Christmas morning and playing with the New Cabbage Patch Kid Santa had left me! Thanks for the chance
Gorgeous bag!
My favourite holiday memory is the one that is yet to be made.
Growing up my sister, brother and I had our own Christmas morning tradition. Of course we were always the first ones up, at least I was as the youngest. So we all gathered quietly and exchanged our gifts. I remember those early Christmas mornings fondly. And now I sometimes wonder if it was my parent’s idea so they could get some extra sleep!

I remember asking for a Barbie doll and after unwrapping all my gifts, no doll. Then my mother said there was one more present in the refrigerator! I unwrapped a box of: chocolate covered cherries and tried to act happy, ha ha. When I opened the box, there she was, my new Barbie doll!

My first Christmas with my husband. We got married in mid-December, so we were still on our honeymoon for Christmas.
My favourite Christmas memory is sewing stockings with my husband, using random towels, polar fleece and fabric paint. We still use them every year and every time we get them out, we laugh at how pathetic they look, but it’s the sentimental piece that makes them special!
