Alright, it’s time we get this thing back on track. It’s been an entire month since the last survey and I had to go back to remind myself what it was even about! Thanks for joining in, let’s see what you said waaaaay back in February!
Last Survey’s Results:
We asked “Where are most of your sewing patterns from?” The majority of you (40%) use free downloads and tutorials online. My favorite too! A huge thanks to all of the amazing bloggers that take the (enormous amounts of) time to tell us how to make something. Second place goes to our local fabric store patterns with 25% and a close third with digital downloads from the blogging community at 20%. Huge kudos to the 3% of people who said they draft the bulk of their patterns!
This Week’s Question:
I’ve been a tad overwhelmed lately at the amount of screen reading I’m doing. Seems I’ve managed to fill up my Bloglovin’ list with 38 blogs – which doesn’t sound like a lot, but when they all decide to post something it really adds up! And of course all of them are indispensable – trust me, I checked!
I’ve got 132 unread posts as of today and it will likely take me about 2 or 3 hours to get to the bottom of that list if I was to sit down and read them all at once. I suppose 2-3 hours may not seem like a lot either – but I don’t seem to have that kind of time all at once right now. I’ve gotten caught up before, but it always gets away from me (kind of like cleaning my house!) I’m curious what your approach is. I want to stay on top of the blogging trends and information, but haven’t got a great process worked out just yet to do that. In keeping with the “survey” I’ve thought up 4 different ways to approach the problem – but I know there are more ways than that so I’d love you to comment and let me know what you do – and maybe how many blogs you follow so we can see who follows the most!

And I’m off to sew something for me! Hooray! See you next week…
Want to have your Sewing Project or Blog featured on Sewing Survey Saturday? Send an email to sherri@threadridinghood.com that includes your sewing related multiple choice question, your name and where you live (if you’d like it included). Please send your question with 3 to 5 multiple choice answers. Also send your blog information including which post you’d like me to link up to if you are featured! If you do not blog I would love to post a photo of one of your recent projects, so please send it along with your question. (Note: I may also feature a photo from your blog post (if applicable), if you do not want a linked photo please let me know in your email.)
I chose “other”… I too have a LOT of blogs in my RSS reader and there is NO way I can read them all… I tend to visit those who leave me comments on my blog first & foremost. Then I skim when I have time. I have 4 kids, homeschool 3 of them, have customs coming in daily, so my time is precious. Blog reading is the last thing I worry about.. but when I do have the time, I love to sit down at night with a coffee and catch up with my bloggy friends! 🙂
Eeek… you are busy! That makes sense, though. I don’t sit down in the evening with coffee… maybe I should prioritize that too! 🙂
I have the same Bloglovin’ problem! If I don’t skim while I’m watching TV, then the next day is sooooo bad!!
Ha! Yes… so true 🙂
I apparently am following 120 blogs (I just looked – yipes :P). I sit and read through them while the boys have their breakfast and watch a few cartoons. It’s a good way to enjoy my morning coffee! I also have the app on my phone so I’ll check every so often – like waiting in line at the grocery store, doctor’s office, in the bathroom, while the boys are having their bath, etc. Also if something doesn’t grab my interest right away, I mark it as read without even opening it. And if it’s something I want to read again, I pin it so it’s easy to find.
Oh my Amy… that’s a lot! You would likely get a much wider view of everything though. Good ideas, thank you!
Between Bloglovin and my Chrome Slick RSS feed, I follow 106 blogs. I’m pretty much a skimmer on most of them. Then I have my real favorites and I read every word!
Wow – Kathleen! You would have to skim to keep up! True – I tend to gravitate towards a few that I will read everything from as well.
I am apparently following 58 and I do a combination. I go through comments others have posted and check out their websites. Then I skim through my list and pick and choose which ones are the most interesting to me at the time. That doesn’t mean I don’t go back in at a later time and peruse that blog once they post something new I am really interested in.
Wow Eska! You’ve got a good process. I like too check out everyone’s websites as well. Takes some dedication!
My intention is to read a few blogs everyday but…then this that and the other thing happens. In-between, that’s how I seem to get a lot of things done. In-between this that and the other thing is when I get to read them, er skim them. And by your results I’m not alone, which makes me feel so much better!
Hi Lysa – thanks for stopping by! Yes – it seems we all have the same problem! Maybe if we weren’t all so creative… but that would be boring. 🙂
I’ve become very selective in the blogs I follow. I’m not sure what my requirements are, but most of them post regulary and are inspiring to me. I can’t stand unread posts (as I can’t stand unread mail in my mailbox) and try to read them all. But very long posts are the ones I skip the first 😉
