Day 4 already – WOW! Thanks for your vacation comments on yesterday’s giveaway. They sound amazing! I am reminded of how many non-North American readers come to visit this blog when I hear your favorite vacation spots are somewhere “close by” in Europe, or Japan! Also, there is a very prominent theme of people who like beaches, and/or nature – specifically quiet nature. I was feeling like some quiet would be good today after traveling with my (thankfully) pretty well behaved kids in the car all day! (and… PS… I’ve saved my favorite fabric combo for the last giveaway tomorrow… since it also happens to be my Birthday!)
I made the pouches for today’s giveaway quite a while ago. Actually, I made 6 of them. I’ve used 4, but saved the last two for a giveaway – and this week was it. I LOVE the cuckoo clock fabric on these, and the retro records, and the Lotta… what can you say, it’s Lotta! The fabric for these is almost all from a 10×10 precut bundle I picked up from Warp & Weft at the Fall Creativ Festival last year. (The records are from Double Decker Fabric.)
The pattern for these little pouches is based on Cynthia Frenette’s “I Can See Clearly Now” Pouch. The original is much larger, and wouldn’t fit within my self-made 10″x10″ constraints. I tested the original pattern for her and use those pouches all the time. They are perfect for sewing supplies, patterns and things the kids need to bring in the car. I’ve actually brought the other 4 smaller ones on our vacation – here and here. You can get Cynthia’s pattern in her shop, and see my review of it here.
Make sure you have entered the other giveaways this week – Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3.
Here’s the detail recap again: Each day this week I am posting a new giveaway. Each giveaway will stay open until midnight on July 21, 2014 (EST). The giveaways are separate, so come back each day to find out what that day’s prize is and to enter for a chance to win! The giveaways are open internationally – so everyone can have a chance! Enter on the Rafflecopter widget below – and if you don’t have Facebook to sign in with, just use your name and email!
My daily quilt shop is an hour drive away and it is a beautiful boutique with very friendly and helpful owners!!
I don’t really have a shop nearby, so I tend to use the internet.
My quiltshop is half an hour away. I love it as the staff is so friendly and helpful and they run a free BOM in their shop and I did learn so many hints for my sewing. Especially as one of them sews everything by hand! Which is just my thing too!
My favorite LQS is called Sew Divine (and it is). I love it for their selection of fabrics and for the friendliness of the staff. Thanks!
What I love about my local quilt shop is the staff are friendly and helpful! Always a pleasure to shop there!
My favorite is Running Stitch, because it’s the closest and easiest to get to. The main lady there is also very nice and helpful.
I have a few nearby (withing 15 minutes!!) that I’ve begun to frequent (I’m pretty new to quilting). But I also order online quite a bit. I use JoAnn fabrics for inexpensive play clothes fabric for my little girl, too.
I don’t have a quilt shop nearby, so I usually go to Jo-Anns (when they have a good sale on) or to some favorite online shops (Fatquarter, Pink Castle, Fabricworm, Fashionable Fabrics, Bloomerie)
I buy nearly all of my fabric online but on Saturday did find a tiny shop that sold fabric in another town about 30 minutes away from where I live. Buying online is very useful and necessary but sometimes the fabric isn’t quite the colour I expected or the scale of the print isn’t quite right.
I can use a pouch like this…it is adorable!! Thank you for the opportunity! God bless you and your family.
I have to rely mostly on the awesome online shop since there isn’t a good shop nearby but once in a while I’ll take a drive to Ottawa Street in Hamilton where they have some nice stores with a pretty good selection of cottons.
Nothing close by, but I order mostly on line : Warp & Weft an Fishskin Fabric are my main sources!
There is only *ONE* local quilt shop worth my time (yes, i’m a fabric snob) and it’s Hyggeligt Fabrics…. gorgeous, designer fabrics with such warm & courteous customer service as well! When i’m downtown I LOVE to go and show my support by bringing home a bag of fabric! lol!!
I mainly order online since there is nothing really local. I much prefer shopping in actual stores though when I have the chance!
LQSs aren’t as predominant here in the UK as in the States. My nearest one is probably a 50 minute drive away (which is a lot to us!) and it’s pretty good, but I buy most of my fabric on line
I just found this adorable quilt shop right off of the marina waterfront in Des Moines, WA. It is so cute. It’s a yellow little cottage, jam packed with fabrics, projects and patterns. Even the bathroom had a wall of fabric bolts! And the cute little kitchen was filled to the brim with iron on embroidery patterns, and other notions. Cutest quilt shop I have ever been to. 🙂

My nearest shops are Towns away. I love Fat Quarter Shop online. crystalbluern at onlineok dot com
It you can travel with kids, you can do anything! 😎
I love Running Stitch Fabrics because they have really really good customer service! They are all so nice
Locally Fabricland carries a considerable amount of great designer fabric and a LQS which just opened this year so they are building their fabric supply. There are a few shops in nearby towns about an hour’s drive that carry designer fabrics. I’ve ordered from a few Canadian online shops such as Warp & Weft, My Fabric Spot & Hamel’s Fabrics because they carry a wonderful array of designer fabrics & precuts and offer great customer service. Thanks for the chance to win!
I shop online as there is not much where I live, I do wish we had at least 20 quilt shops lol.
Haven’t got a local quilt shop, but a new sewing shop has recently opened in Penarth which does sell some quilting fabric and also services machines very reasonably. .
I usually go to my local JoAnn’s store. Or I will order online from Connecting Threads or Craftsy.
Sadly no local quilt shop. Just Fabricland and the occasional Fabric.com order.
Living in an urban environment (west of Toronto), I have access to many quilt shops, depending on my needs.
But, I am participating in 2 shop hops in Ontario this month and next (July shop hop and the Ontario row by row) and I am finding even more shops to love. The Ladies and I are off tomorrow to day 2 of our hop this month, covering the London Ontario area and 6 new (to us) shops to explore. We did 6 shops at the beginning of the month.
Wish us luck, and fun.
Unfortunately there is not a quilt shop near my home. I usually order on line or wait until I make a trip to the closest shops which are 2 hours away.
When I lived in the Edmonton area my favorite was Quiltessential Co. They had loads to choose from and lots of Bonnie and Camille fabrics. Now I mostly order online as I live two hours from the city.
My favorite local quilt shop is called Knit One Smock Too. You wouldn’t think it carried quilting fabric but it does. It is my favorite because they carry most fabric lines that I like.
My favorite quilt shop is about 20 minutes away. The staff and customers are very friendly and helpful (they do show & tell, classes, sew alongs, etc). They are fairly well stocked (stuff I buy) with modern fabrics, have several full lines of solids and a ton of books, notions etc.
But, their client base is heavily into batiks and/or Civil War (not my cup of tea) so they don’t tend to stock an entire line of fabrics from any one modern collection or any pre-cuts. Thank goodness for the internet! Pink Castle, Superbuzzy, Bobbie Lou’s Fabric Factory, etsy – I’ve never had a bad experience ordering from anyone online.
Thanks! notwendy gmail
We have two quilt shops in town, one small and intimate and the other large and busy. I have shopped at both, but get better deals from the internet. Thanks for the give aways!!
I’m lucky to have several shops within 45 minutes, but hard to pick a favourite. Each has a different flavour!
No decent fabric shops locally so I buy online or at shows !!
I don’t have a local quilt shop so I buy most of my fabric online. Pink Chalk and Fabric Worm are two of my favorites.
My local quilt shop is just 5 minutes drive away – Atlantic Fabrics. They’ve got a pretty good selection and are starting to bring in more designer and modern fabric. But our city is getting a modern shop in just a few short weeks. I can hardly wait for opening day!
I have actually never looked for a local quilt shop; it would be too tempting for me because I don’t have extra money to spend on fabric! So, I guess my favorite fabric source are scraps from friends who know I sew, from old clothes, thrift stores, etc. Even though I would appreciate getting to buy new fabric once in awhile, I also love the challenge of making do, and making something beautiful with fabric I wouldn’t necessairly choose myself. I enjoy the connection to the original necessity of piecing scraps together and creating beauty along the way — which you’ve certainly done with the bags up above! Thanks!
My closest shop closed…the owners retired. It was Sunflower Quilts .
I don’t have a local quilt shop. When I do venture out a distance I can find some but I get so dissappointed that they don’t keep anything for hand quilters. So I find myself buying lots on line. (much more than I need) usually if I need a needle puller or some more needles I will just have to buy fabric and other items just so I can get free shipping. LOL
So far my fabric has been hand me down scraps from family members. It used to come from Fabricland…
How I wish I had a local quilt shop! I find most of my fabric at the thrift store. My local thrift store sells a lot of fabric by the yard! It’s not the latest designer prints, but I’m ok with that. So is my wallet 🙂
My city only has one quilt shoppe, so I guess that one is my favourite! 🙂 The proprietor, Michelle, is super friendly and always ready to help me match fabrics (which I am not that good at…yet!).
These are so cute! Thanks for the chance to win.
I shop mostly at Fabric Depot in Portland, Oregon. My favorite on-line is Bear Creek Quilting Goods. They have wonderful batiks and awesome clearance prices.
I have a local quilt shop, bits and pieces, that is about an hr away from me. It’s worth the drive – and I love it as everyone is super friendly and go out of their way to help!
I use the web mostly- we do not have a guilt store close, which is a bummer !
I shop wherever I can get what I need.
My local fabric store doesn’t have the greatest selection, although I try to give them business when i’m looking for basic supplies. I’ve ordered from fabricspark a few times now, and I find them to be an awesome mix of excellent customer service, reasonable prices, and gorgeous selection.
don’t have one close, it closed down
I go to Rag Bag. Great little shop with everything.
My favorite local quilt shop is less than 10 minutes away. What makes them great is that, while they’re not the biggest shop I’ve been in, they have the biggest hearts. The staff is super friendly, and will help you however they can. They have also ordered books and patterns I’ve suggested, and ask me quite often if I have any suggestions, as the items I’ve suggested sell out quickly. The name of this store is Quilters Eden, and is located in East Grand Forks, MN.
No close local quilt shop-I end up online. But times are tight and working through my late aunts stash now.
I buy most of my fabric online. The closest quilt shop is in a town close by.
I haven’t a clue what I would use these for, but they are so cute & fun! Probably to hold miscellaneous kids stuff in my monster mommy purse! 🙂
I order online as my shop closed 2 years ago
Love the sweet pouches, I wish I had a local quilt shop, 🙁 boohhoo, I buy all of my fabric on line, it is a hit and miss thing.
The the closest quilt shop to my house is 45 minutes away. It is not a great shop because it is so overcrowded and they don’t carry the newer lines, so I order all my fabric online.
Congratulations on your blogiversary and thanks for such fantastically useful giveaways.
I love the staff at my LQS, friendly and helpful and great fabrics to boot. They just had a splash in a national quilt magazine. There are also so many great online fabric shopping places. Fabric, fabric and more fabric.
I buy my fabric locally from fabricland, i am in toronto, canada 🙂
We have Jo-Ann’s close by…no real Quit Shops close…an hour drive or longer. So I love to buy from Bear Creek Quilting& Southern Fabrics online stores… also Fabric.com Am a very Happy customer of them.
I enjoy shopping on line at Connecting Threads. Great service, reasonable prices and friendly people.
I don’t have a local quilt shop, so most of my shopping is done at JoAnn’s.
There are no quilt shops where I live so I buy online, mostly at Etsy
I love g-street fabrics, which is really close to my house in virginia. But I don’t love their selection of quilting fabric all that much (i love their dressmaking fabric and their remnant table!). For quilting, I love “The Quilt Patch” in Fairfax, VA. It’s in this old converted house, and each room has a different color/theme.
I do a lot of shopping online and have 2 great local quilt shops that I can go to. I’m a fabric addict! Love the little pouches! I have patterns for some, but haven’t had the courage to actually do something with a zipper! ha ha!
Well, there’s one quilt shop in my town and they do have a ton of fabric. A lot of it is not my style, but it’s nice that they’re there and usually in a pinch I can find something that will work. Otherwise, I buy a lot of fabric online.
We have 2 in our Area. One is Marshals and I love to go there. It is so big and has a great selection of fabric. The prices are great. The other is just a small mom and pop that just sells fabric that has been discontinued. But they have name brands and nice selection
Not a lot of great LQS near me. Most of them carry fabric that is more traditional than what I am interested in. There is one about 25 miles away that I like because of the owner. She is always friendly and helpful.
The local fabric shop closed a couple years ago. Most recently I ordered from Double Decker Fabrics.
I’m always looking for a good deal on fabric so I shop at Fabricland during sales, Lens Mills, and I’ve even found a few pieces at Value Villiage 🙂
Pink Castle Fabrics. It’s my local fabric store. I lOVE the fabrics they sell…Japanese fabrics and all my favorite collections. Plus the girls are nice and awesome 🙂
