We’ve been busy this season with visits from cousins and delicious dinners. I thought I would share a [very] few photos of what we have been up to.
We’ve been to our local science center and had a great day off with cousins and grandpa and grandma.
We opened a few stocking stuffers. I made this nightgown from 2 of my old shirts a year or so ago.
We opened a few more presents. (We are so lucky!) This nightgown was sewn by my mom for my oldest and now it fits my youngest daughter. How things change! They get big so fast.
My oldest suggested a family photo on Christmas Eve. How fun it will be to look back and see us when the kids were small. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas this year. We have been truly blessed.
I am looking forward towards the new year and have a lot of Christmas sewing to show you – now that everyone has opened their gifts! A few tutorials even… so hang on and come back soon!
I think we might have time to make my family’s traditional butter tarts – after Christmas – this year! Instead we baked up some melting snowman cookies for our friends and neighbors.
These cookies are really kid friendly. The girls had great fun helping out. My older daughter decorated almost half of them herself!
They come out really cute and the recipe is DELICIOUS! Especially just warm from the oven. We will definitely make these again, maybe even a double batch!
This one is about to get eaten!
FINALLY! I have finished a second Christmas project (not counting the “zillion” things I have made as gifts). One more to go – hopefully tomorrow night.. and only after I finish the last 2 Christmas gifts. That means I will have finished everything a whole 5 days before Christmas! Amazing (insert rolling of eyes here)!
Moving on… I was able to finishing this shirt the night before my daughter went to school for her last day before Christmas – whew!
We had a little help with our photo shoot.
The shirt is loosely based on this tutorial. But as you can see it is basically totally different! I bought a size 6 shirt and a size 16 shirt in the same red and used the bottom of the larger shirt to make the ruffled skirt. Thankfully it is the perfect length to wear with a pair of leggings. The tree is made from one of my old green knit shirts – so it didn’t need hemming – hooray! The small bows on the tree help to hold the ruffles in place and add a touch of the “necessary pink” to her shirt.
Only six more sleeps ’till Christmas! I’ve got a cookie recipe that I’m going to share on Saturday – so come back for a visit! It’s a great (delicious!) kid-friendly project for the weekend before Christmas.
A few weeks ago we visited family in Ohio. Luckily they lived near a Jo-Ann Fabric store, unluckily we didn’t have much time to spend there, luckily I didn’t have time to buy the store out!
Here’s what I found in half an hour…
The two fabrics on the left were selected by my 5 year old. She wants a skirt out of the pink/lemon/pear fabric, and a dress from the tree fabric. They are both a small wale corduroy and are quite soft. I have issues with both, the pink is not cute enough and the trees are overly cute and need some toning down! I have some ideas… once I finish this Christmas sewing… The one on the right is my favorite. It is by Dwell Studio and is destined to be a LeapPad2 case for a small munchkin. Though I think it may be spring before I get to it!
I am always looking for things that make a more professional looking finished product. This coloured velcro and below, the coloured elastic will be fun to play with.
I suppose that is not much considering the amount of sewing stuff the store has to offer, but (thankfully for my budget!) the haul was relatively small. I do find that I shop online or in the more “expensive” fabric stores anyhow, the quality of the fabric is better and the designs are trendier. Places like Jo-Ann’s though are fantastic for notions, thread and accessories.
