I finally finished my oldest daughter’s Halloween costume.
I was a bit sad that she decided to be Cinderella like every other girl in her class, but I guess every kid has the right to be a princess for a few Halloweens. Can’t say it’s not “on trend” anyhow!
I used the top of a 3T dress pattern that I upsized to a size 6, plus a bit of winging it. Hopefully large enough to fit over a coat, and small enough to wear to school with a long sleeve shirt underneath. Some inspiration from here also.
I have had it mostly finished except for the zipper and gloves until today. Poor kid, she’s been dying to wear it. The photo shoot was full of many (many!) spins, smiles and “princess poses”. When she first put it on she said “Mommy, it’s perfect!” What more could I ask for. The perks of being able to sew!

Hooray! I got to go shopping! This is my stash, though all of it is destined for one Christmas project or another.

That is a better look, so my family can try to decipher which ones they think are going to be made into something for them!

These ones are going to be made into Beach Robes. I have been wanting to make these robes for my girls for a few years now. I finally have the time to do it! A few other little people will be getting one too.

This fabric is Free Spirit, Westminster Fibers – Mum Garden. It is going to be a make-up bag using the open wide zippered pouch tutorial from Noodlehead. I also used the tutorial to make a snack bag here.

I know you’ve already seen this one – but the selvage edge was too cute and I couldn’t resist a photo. Good ol’ Michael Miller for making (yet another) fabric I couldn’t pass up!
I have been sewing like a crazy person – really. My husband commented that he felt a bit like a sewing widow! I think I spent about 25 hours between Sunday and Tuesday night making my oldest daughter a fall/spring coat. Her old one (which I hated) now has a broken zipper (hooray!). I have had some It’s a Hoot by Momo for Moda since at least last spring destined for a new coat. Of course the sewing didn’t start until the old one was unusable! I will be attempting a photo shoot in the morning and will see what I can come up with to show you.
I’m also working on my oldest’s birthday party so I’ll be posting some of that stuff as well.
(Just for the record – given the length of time I spent sewing – I did manage to feed my family good meals and get my daughter to school on time those days!)

I have been thinking, for a few months, that it would be fun to sew with someone, or many some-ones. There is a post on no big dill that I cannot find right now. In it there are photos of people sewing and knitting, drinking tea and eating delicious snacks. Now that sewing is becoming a big deal again, I think that it would be possible to start some kind of “every-once-in-a-while” meeting group. I know a few sewists that read this blog that are in my area (you know who you are!). And some in this area that are not reading this blog (shame on them! kidding….). Let me know if you’d be interested (comments are good), collect your sewist friends. I am free mid-end of November to have everyone over to my place. If not, we could start early and plan for January, after the holiday rush. Who’s in?!

Every fall for the last few years when it starts to turn cool outside and the leaves change colour my husband asks for these muffins. He is a pumpkin fan and will try almost anything that has the word “pumpkin” or “spice” in the title – especially when they are together! The muffin cravings started after he bought a Pumpkin Spice muffin at a certain “Star” studded coffee shop down the street. He came home and requested that I find something similar so he could have them without paying the “Bucks” (as it were!).

A quick type into Google found (amazingly) the title “Almost-Like-Starbucks Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins“. This recipe has been my “go-to” for fall get-togethers and play-date snacking. They are super-delicious eaten warm on the porch on a cool day, especially with a cup of tea.

Make them with a friend (and try not to think of the 2 cups of sugar!), relax, give thanks for something – or many things. Enjoy.

If you thought I was gone for good (and only when I just started – what a shame!), one thing seems to happen around the end of September – everyone get sick! That’s all I’m going to say, no need to bore you with the details. Though I am thinking that a few “backup posts” might be a good idea to have, just in case!

I found this shirt idea pinned on my friend Leanne’s board and just re-found it today. So, being spur of the moment as usual I decided to make two – just in time to wear on the last day of school before Canadian Thanksgiving. (Thanks Leanne!)

If you will excuse the wrinkles, I hate irons unless I am using them when I am sewing, I will add my photos to the amazing collection already on the internet (Just Google “turkey ribbon shirt”).

I would have taken a picture of the girls actually wearing the shirts – but one of them is still sick, so I’m sticking with the safer option.
If you want to plan ahead and make a Christmas related shirt for your munchkin(s) you could make one of these. I think they are definitely on my to do list – if I can spare some time between present making!
